MESC 2015 Annual Institute: Transformation, Balance, and Community
Wednesday, June 10, 2015
Hosted by the Huntington
Join the Museum Educators of Southern California for the 2015 Annual Institute, a great opportunity for professional networking, presentations by guest speakers, and participatory break out sessions.
The 2015 Annual Institute will look at museum education through three contemporary lenses: transformation, balance, and community. Our panel discussions and breakout workshops will cover questions, such as — How can you change your community by using museum resources? How do you find personal and professorial balance in a competitive workforce? How have museums already created transformation?
The morning will begin with a panel of speakers from a wide range of cultural institutions and museums that will share their thoughts on finding personal and professional balance in the workplace. After lunch the keynote panel will explore the transformative power of institutional change and the potential challenges it brings.

Leslie will reflect on what makes museum experiences truly powerful and memorable, drawing on her research trips to countless museums and her own work at the Boston Children’s Museum. This program will offer a great opportunity to hear and interact with a thought leader in the field and to connect with other educators from across Southern California.

MESC 2014 SPRING PROGRAM
Leading the Way: Re-envisioning Our Programs for the Next Generation
Monday, April 14, 2014
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Kick off the spring in Santa Barbara with this Next Generation Science Standards workshop designed for the informal educator. Dynamic science is back! Gone are the days of trying to correlate our programming to science standards that emphasize memorization and recall; let’s help our schools move into a future where students engage directly in Science Practices to understand concepts deeply, solve problems, improve their lives and make the world a better place! During this 4-hour workshop, we will focus on understanding the convergent vision of the Next Generation Science Standards, the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Common Core State Standards. Then we will roll up our sleeves to delve into the Practices and consider how they relate to our own organizations, in order to best meet the changing needs of our schools.
