  • MOCA Education strives to make education more collaborative, inclusive, and learner-centered, to nurture intellectual growth through experiences with contemporary art, and to increase access to the transformative power of art.

    The Educator will work primarily within Contemporary Art Start (CAS), the Museum’s year-long partnership program for 3rd-12th grade classrooms across Los Angeles County. Through CAS, MOCA invests in supporting teachers to lead inclusive discussions about contemporary art with their students using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS).

    Within this part-time position (12-20 hours per week), the Educator will primarily assist with the development and implementation of discussion-based tours for students and learner-centered professional development trainings for teachers within CAS, as well as assist with our family programs. Family programs include in-person events that incorporate guided tours and artmaking experiences as well as self-guided project spaces featuring accessible artmaking activities, and more. MOCA is looking for candidates who are interested in developing into highly trained teacher-coaches.

  • The Education Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum seeks an Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs to support Getty Education’s broad slate of K12 teacher programs and projects. As a member of the Education Department, the Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs will have broad knowledge of museum education best practices, teaching, pedagogy and K12 content development, and commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion principles for audience engagement. Under moderate direction, the Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs will implement and manage K12 teacher programs and projects to foster engaging and creative experiences with art, such as in-person and virtual professional development programs and events; digital learning resources for teachers and students; and teacher wellness programming. The successful candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert on K12 teacher programming, arts integration, project-based learning, teacher professional development, and 21st-century skill building. They will also be knowledgeable about strategies that maximize inclusiveness of programming and outreach to engage diverse K12 audiences including Title I schools, and in both in-person and remote classroom settings.

  • The Department of Museum, Arts & Culture is searching for a creative, organized, collaborative, proactive and community-oriented individual to join the team as a Museum Curator. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills including a mastery in museum writing, is comfortable working both independently and as a member of a team, has project management experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects. This is a great opportunity for an art or history curator to play a leading role in shaping the Museum’s efforts to create a distinctive exhibitions program that garners critical attention while fulfilling our mission to advance an understanding of regional history and art. Working closely with the Museum Manager, the Exhibits Curator will execute the curatorial vision for the Ontario Museum of History & Art and will be responsible for exhibit research, development, and production. The Exhibits Curator supervises a full time Assistant Curator and a part time Museum Assistant and works in partnership with Curators of Education and Collections.

  • Craft Contemporary seeks a passionate and highly effective educator to serve as its new Director of Education. This position presents a unique opportunity to lead an established and successful Education Department within a vibrant museum with a rich history in Los Angeles. The organization is experiencing a revitalization under new leadership, enhancing its distinctive position in the art community. The Director of Education will develop, implement, and manage curriculum-based educational projects and programs based on current exhibitions to foster an appreciation and deeper understanding of craft and exhibitions for participants of all ages. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of K-12 museum education, including experience in developing standards-based arts curriculum and pedagogical strategies, as well as familiarity with the Los Angeles educational ecosystem. Responsibilities include managing Craft Contemporary’s school visits program, the annual teen program, family programs, and various community and outreach initiatives. Under minimal supervision, the Director of Education recruits, trains, and supervises the Education Assistant and teaching artists to achieve educational and programming goals. Additionally, the Director of Education will schedule programming, build and sustain relationships with external community partners, schools, educators, and teachers, and co-create educational programs with visiting artists. The Director of Education reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with the Senior Curator, Director of External Affairs & Curator, and other staff members. This is a full-time, hybrid (four days in the office, one day remote), exempt position requiring a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening hours.

  • The Teaching Artist for the Craft Youth Culture Teen Program will develop and teach a syllabus that engages a group of high school students in critical discussion around contemporary craft and will provide hands-on workshops which inspire students’ creativity and explore a variety of different craft techniques and materials. The teaching artist will work collaboratively with the Director of School and Family Programs to plan and prepare for up to 22 sessions with the same group of students between October 2, 2024, and March 26, 2025, and a final culminating event on a weekend in early June.   • The MER Board of Directors provide leadership and oversight to the Museum Education Roundtable and the Journal of Museum Education through sound, ethical, financial, and legal governance policies. There are opportunities for Board members to exercise and build skills, knowledge, and abilities that enhance or extend beyond the scope of members’ work at their organizations. The Board is intentional in creating a work environment rooted in collaboration, shared leadership, and reflexive practice.

    MER Board members attend one retreat (in-person and/or virtual), quarterly virtual board meetings, and monthly action team meetings. In addition to these scheduled meetings, board members are expected to do individual work to prepare for meetings, and reach goals and deadlines that amount to about 1-4 hours per week. Board members serve on one of three action teams: Editorial, which develops themes along with the JME Co-Editors and reviews guest edited proposals for the Journal of Museum Education; Communications, which grows and engages the JME readership and MER membership by leveraging JME content through social media, emails, and the Museum Visions blog; and Sustainability, which stewards MER’s long-term financial sustainability and organizational health.

    Some board members also serve in officer roles (i.e., President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary) or as team co-chairs (Editorial, Communications, and Sustainability). All MER board members perform necessary work to produce and promote the JME and to advance MER’s goals. Board members have many opportunities to work on and/or create tasks that are meaningful to them. Tasks can range from taking notes, writing/editing/peer reviewing, strategic planning, program development, etc.
